KARACHI, March 26: The city’s water supply situation on Wednesday improved to some extent and would completely be normalized by Thursday, claimed a senior official of the city government’s Water and Sanitation Department.

“Most parts of the city have already started receiving water while the supply position in the remaining affected localities would be normalized by Thursday as all the pumping stations are now operating to their full capacity,” the official added.

The city’s water supply situation was first affected on Sunday when its supply from Pipri Phase-II pump house had remained suspended for 18 hours owing to a cable fault. The subsequent power failures which occurred at three other pumping stations — North-East Karachi (Old), K-2 and Pipri pumping stations — on Monday and Tuesday had further deteriorated the city’s supply position and as a result many localities had either gone without water or received scant supply for the last three days.

Heaving a sigh of relief that no power failure took place at any pumping station on Wednesday, the W&S Department official said that except for some localities of former districts East and South, water supply to other localities was normalized on Wednesday.

However, complaints of persisting water shortage have been received from Bath Island, Gizri, Clifton, PECHS blocks 2 and 6, Adamjee Nagar, Banglore Town, Jinnah Cooperative Housing Society, Kharadar, Pakistan Chowk and Bhimpura.
