KARACHI, March 25: The prosecution in a gang-rape case of two sisters against five men, including three cops, has moved an application for the transfer of the case to anti-terrorism court (ATC) for trial.

Ismatullah, a constable of the Saddar Town, Malik Safeer, a dismissed cop, Qamar Iqbal, a constable of the CIA Saddar, Malik Hasnat son of Inspector Malik Shabbir Awan, and Kashif, a laundry shop owner, have been charged with the gang-rape of the two sisters in their Ranchore Lines flat on April 1, last year.

Special public prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti applied to the additional district and sessions judge, South, Farooq Channa, for the transfer of the case to the ATC in view of the gravity of the offence.

The judge fixed March 31 for hearing the arguments.

The gang of five allegedly barged into the flat of Abdus Sattar, held the inmates hostage at gunpoint and gang raped his two daughters, aged 19 and 22 years.

The elder sister, a divorcee with an infant, was allegedly raped by all five accused, and the younger sister, a maid, by accused Malik Safeer only.

The victim sisters, their father and brother identified the accused during identification parades before a judicial magistrate.

The victim family is being given legal aid by the Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA).

ACQUITTED: The additional district and sessions judge, West, Mohammed Sagheer Rana, acquitted on Tuesday four workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a carjacking case.
