ISLAMABAD, March 24: Chief Justice of Supreme Court Sheikh Riaz Ahmed on Monday stressed upon the judges to work hard and remain committed to fair performance of their judicial functions.

Speaking to participants of a two-week refresher course for senior civil judges from the provinces and AJK here at Federal Judicial Academy, the chief justice dealt with various aspects of the judicial functions to be performed by trainee judges.

Chaudhry Hasan Nawaz, director general of federal judicial academy, was also present.

The chief justice made special mention of the attitude, behaviour and judicial ethics and called for reduction in delay in disposal of the cases.

He also called upon the trainee judges to develop one of the most important attributes of Allah Almighty in them and that is justice.

He further stressed that the judicial officers must behave as vicegerent of Allah Almighty.

He called upon the participants that while dealing with the litigant public as well as members of the Bar, they must show all possible humility and must give patient hearing to the adversaries before them.

He advised them to display complete impartiality and fairness in the discharge of their duties.

The chief justice briefly dealt with trial procedure and appellate procedure both in civil as well as criminal cases.

Mr Nawaz said the batch of participants undergoing judicial training in the Federal Judicial Academy comprises senior civil judges who have already served in the judiciary for an average of about 10 years and are at the verge of promotion as additional district and session judges.

The faculty of the academy is imparting special training to them for both trial and appellate courts.

Emphasis has been laid on practice rather than theory. Mr Nawaz expressed his gratitude to the chief justice on account of keen interest he has taken in efficient functioning of the academy.—APP
