Karzai puts off visit

ISLAMABAD, March 22: Afghan President Hamid Karzai who was scheduled to arrive here on Saturday afternoon, postponed the visit at the eleventh hour.

Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri was preparing to leave for the Chaklala air base to receive the Afghan president when he was informed that the visit had been called off.

When contacted, foreign office spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan said the visit had been put off due to Iraq war and security reasons.

Other officials at the foreign ministry linked the postponement to the cancellation of the Pakistan Day parade at which President Karzai was to be the guest of honour.
