GILGIT, March 22: The inspector-general of Northern Areas police, Syed Ahesen Mukhtar Ashraf, constituted two teams on Friday to investigate into the murder of the education adviser of the areas, Saifur Rahman Khan, who was allegedly shot dead by his cousin, Imtiaz, on Wednesday.

Brother of the slain adviser, Qari Hafeezur Rahman, has alleged that conspiracies to eliminate him were hatched because of his involvement in curbing sectarianism. Qari Rahman, senior vice-president of the Northern Areas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, demanded that the “hidden hands” behind the killing be exposed.

The members and advisers of the Northern Areas Legislative Council paid tribute to Saifur Rahman for his peace initiatives and termed his death a tragedy for the region.
