KHAIRPUR, March 22: Hesco authorities disconnected power connections of Khairpur taluka municipal administration and eight telephone exchanges of the district on Saturday due to non-payments of dues.

As a result power supply to street lights of the city was also suspended, plunging the city roads and streets into darkness after sunset.

According to Hesco sources, there are dues of Rs791,753 against the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, Khairpur district, due to which power connections of telephone exchanges of Khairpur, Baburloi, Paka Chang, Hingorja, Kolab Jial, Ahmedpur and Pir-jo-Goth was disconnected.

Later, electricity connection of Pir-jo-Goth exchange was restored. Other exchanges are now running on generators.

Similarly, there are dues of Rs3,275,127 against the TMA, Khairpur, therefore power supply to streetlights of Khairpur city was disconnected.

WATER ROTATION: The executive engineer, irrigation, west division, Khairpur, has announced a water rotation programme for 28 minor waterways due to water shortage in the Indus river.

The waterways have been divided into three groups.

Group one includes Kubar, Babarloi, Kupri, Faiz Wah system, Phul Wahan, Piryaloi minors, Faiz Nahar system and Siyal X-regulator.

The minor waterways of this group will remain open from March 21 to 28.

Water channels of group-II — including Rahjua, Abad, Kingri, Bodly, Fareedabad, Bhatti, Ahmedpur, Allahdad, Toori minors, Lalan system and Dinal — will remain open from March 28 to April 5.

Waterways of group-III — including Haider, Old Razidero, Belhari and Mithiani minors — will remain open from April 5 to 13.
