HYDERABAD, March 22: The district government is preparing a plan and will mobilize the social welfare department and NGOs to resolve problems of people by initiating social welfare projects.

This was said by the EDO, community development, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi, while presiding over a meeting of social welfare department officers and representatives of different NGOs at the Shahbaz Hall here the other day.

He said resources were available but the amount allocated for development schemes was not being fully utilized due to lack of communication and technical expertise.

He said it was the responsibility of social welfare department officers to mobilize NOGs and social reformers to promote social welfare activities in their areas.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over the performance of the social welfare department, Mr Qureshi said action would be taken against those officers who did not perform their duties properly.

The meeting also discussed the miserable condition of the Darul Aman where destitute women were housed.

Mr Qureshi told the meeting a strategy to improve the condition of the Darul Aman had been prepared which would be submitted to the Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly during her visit to the Darul Aman.

He directed the officers to prepare welfare projects keeping in view economic and social conditions of their areas and submit proposals at the next meeting so that the same could be implemented.

He said he would conduct surprise visits of social welfare centres.
