LARKANA, March 21: Hesco chief Tariq Arshad has agreed to restore power supply to the Moenjodaro archaeological site and reduce its dues from Rs6.3 million to Rs500,000.

The decision was taken at a meeting between the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company chief executive and a delegation of the archaeology staff posted at the site, held here on Friday.

Power connection of the archaeological site had been disconnected due to non-payment of dues.

During the meeting, the curator of the Moenjodaro Museum, Irshad Rid, told Mr Arshad that due to disconnection of power supply to the site, the risk of theft of artifacts from the museum had increased and the site lacked drinking water as its water pump was lying idle.

Mr Rid told Mr Arshad that the concerned Hesco SDO had continuously been sending highly inflated power bills and he was claiming that the archaeological department of the site had to pay dues of Rs6.3 million.

He said that despite being approached time and again, Hesco officials were reluctant to rectify the bills.

A source said that telephone connection at the site was also disconnected due to non-payment of bill while some vehicles were standing idle at Moenjodaro.
