ISLAMABAD, March 20: The Central Board of Revenue collected Rs271.705 billion revenue during the July-February period of the current financial year, as against Rs234.934 billion collected during the same period last year, showing an increase of 15.7 per cent.

Final official figures released by the CBR here on Thursday, showed the revenue under the head of direct taxes and central excise duty during the period under review registered a negative growth in comparison to the same period of last year.

It was only the customs duty and sales tax collection, which registered a massive growth during the period under review over the same period of last year.

The tax wise break-up showed the tax authorities collected Rs83.154 billion under income tax, as against Rs83.685 billion collected during the same period of last year, showing a decline of 0.6 per cent.

The CBR collected Rs38.922 billion under the head customs duty as compared to Rs24.626 billion over the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 58.1 per cent. The sales tax collection recorded at Rs122.456 billion during the period under review, as against Rs99.296 billion of last year, showing an increase 23.3 per cent.

And the tax authorities collected Rs27.173 billion under the CED during the July-February period against Rs27.326 billion over the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 0.6 per cent.
