JHANG, March 18: Bhowana police on Tuesday registered a case against around 200 people belonging to two groups of a sect in Bhowana town, 48 kilometres from here in Chiniot sub-division.
A group reportedly took out an unlicensed and unauthorized mourning procession on the night of Muharram 11 which passed through various streets of the town. The next morning, the rival group took out a procession to register their protest against the illegality committed by their rival group. The processionists raised slogans against their opponents and the government. They blocked the Jhang-Chiniot road by parking tractor-trolleys and burning tyres. The traffic remained suspended for more than an hour. Police from Jhang and Chiniot were rushed to the site to restore traffic.
Bhowana police registered two separate cases under the Anti-terrorism Act. The first case was against Fazal Abbas and 42 identified and 60 unidentified people for taking out an unauthorized procession. The second case under the same section was against Akram, 32 identified and 60 unidentified men for taking out the protest procession, blocking traffic and burning tyres.
