SWABI, March 16: Peshawar Electricity Supply Company has sanctioned Rs2 million for installation and repair of transformers in the district.

Sources in Pesco told Dawn on Sunday that the national and provincial assembly members had met Pesco Chief Executive Brig Tahir  Saeed Malik during his visit on Tuesday. District Nazim Sher Zaman Sher and Tehsil Nazim Masood Jabar were also present.

The parliamentarians complained that Pesco staff had imposed “unjust” fine on consumers and demanded that only those should be fined who had indulged in power theft, sources said.

Majority of the consumers, they said, had received inflated bills and they had to follow a complicated process for the correction of the bills.

They informed Brig Malik that in Chota Lahore poles had been installed in 1990 but Pesco had neither provided electricity transformers nor wire, sources said.

They said repair of damaged transformers in the summer should be accelerated.

The district Nazim, the sources said, demanded that the Rs1,000 commercial tax on tobacco farmers should be withdrawn. He said the former Pesco chief had exempted the farmers from the tax but the order was not implemented. The parliamentarians demanded upgrading of Dobian and Tordher  feeders. The Pesco chief said unjust fines would be withdrawn but power theft would not be tolerated.
