KOHAT, March 16: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, MNA and chief of Pukhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party while rejecting the inter- provincial water accords demanded fresh formula for judicious distribution of resources and profits on the basis of principles so that small provinces do not feel deprived.

He said that 110 million acre feet water entered Punjab from Khairababad daily but the Pukhtoons only got eight per cent from it.

Similarly, the NWFP produced 75 per cent of electricity but majority of the villages and towns remained without it.

He alleged that the industrialists of Punjab were involved in power theft, whereas fines were being collected from the entire country. He said that industries had not been established in smaller provinces for known reasons.

He said that his party was not against Kalabagh Dam but it should be constructed in the NWFP. He blamed the army and Waderas for the plight of 80 per cent of the people who run from pillar to post to for job, whereas, there was no dearth of money and jobs for the influentials.

Addressing the Karak Bar on Saturday he regretted that during the 55 years those politicians who pointed out the distortion of the Constitution by the generals had been labelled as traitors.

He blamed the military for maligning the politicians.

He said that the Pukhtoons were against the involvement of the military in the Russian war and presence of US troops on our soil in the past and we demand the same now. “All US personnel should be expelled from the country forthwith to restore the sovereignty and dignity of the nation,” he remarked

He said those politicians who believed in democracy would never accept the Legal Framework Order. He explained that even the Supreme Court was not allowed to suggest changes in the constitution once the parliament had been restored.

He asked the people at the helm to unveil the reports of two major air crashes in which the air chief and 16 officers and an Afghan minister for mineral development also perished within 24 hours.

ELECTED GOVERNOR: Pukhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai has demanded of the government to hold elections for the post of the NWFP governor, from tribal areas, on the basis of adult franchise, our Landi Kotal correpondent adds.

Speaking to party workers and other notables at the residence of Haji Khanzali at Jamrud, Khyber agency on Saturday, Mr Achakzai said that the NWFP governor, who was an agent of the federal government for the tribal areas, might be chosen by the tribal people.

Commenting on the proposed reforms, the PMAP chief stressed the need to strengthen the Jirga system. This he said would also help strengthen the democratic process in Fata.

He said that in order to curtail the powers of the political agents in tribal agencies, the political administration be made subservient to the tribal Jirga.

He suggested that reforms should be introduced gradually and in accordance with the tribal customs and traditions.

Mr Achakzai urged the government to immediately stop interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan and not to provide shelter to what he called international terrorists.

The PMAP chief urged the federal government to create a separate province for the Pukhtoons. Mr Achakzai however, suggested that tribal people should remain independent as enshrined in the 1973 constitution.
