GUJRANWALA, March 16: Gale and rain hit villagers of Qila Dedar Singh and Jameki Chattha (Wazirabad) anxiously await rehabilitation aid promised by the Punjab government.
They had sustained losses to their property and crops some two weeks ago.
Some of the affected villagers who met newsmen here on Sunday doubted the sincerity of official promises. “We have been hit hard. Some of us have been left homeless. Some have lost their animals too. We have no resources to feed our dependents,” they said.
They urged the chief minister to release the aid at the earliest.
POWER CONNECTIONS: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) would ensure the provision of electricity connections to domestic, commercial and farm consumers within a fortnight of submitting applications.
This was stated by Gepco chief executive Brig Saifullah Khalid while speaking at an open kutchery at Pindi Bhattian on Saturday. He said the Gepco had already doubled the quota of farm connections to promote agricultural.
He appealed the consumers to clear their outstanding dues at the earliest as R. 7.42 million were outstanding against them.
TEACHERS: The Punjab Science Teachers Association wants the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, to enhance remuneration of examiners besides providing them stationery.
A delegation of the association led by divisional patron-in-chief Chaudhry Ghulam Mustafa Jajja met board chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghauri in his office here on Saturday and conveyed him their problems.
The chairman assured them that their genuine problems would be resolved instantly.
THREE KILLED: Three people were killed and 24 others injured in two road accidents in Alipur Chattha and Naushera Virkan on Sunday.
A wagon was going to Alipur Chattha when it collided head-on with a truck near Hazrat Kalianwala Sharif. Two persons, Jan Mohammed and Shah Noor, died on spot, while 12 others sustained injuries.
Bushra Bibi was killed and 12 other passengers injured when a bus rammed into a roadside tree near Karyal Kalan, Naushera Virkan.
