BUNER, Dec 1: The councillors elected on the seat reserved for workers/peasants held their first meeting at Daggar on Saturday and discussed various problems being faced by them in agriculture sector.

The meeting was presided over by a councillor Nisar Khan and was attended by all worker/peasant councillors of the district. The Agriculture Department was represented by Sultan Rum and Sharifullah Khan.

The participants of the meeting complained of the indifferent attitude of the Agriculture Department as field assistants and field workers were not available most of the time, while the seed, fertilizers and medicines were substandard and expensive.

They said the officials of local Agriculture Department were inefficient and took slight interest in increasing crop yield.

The EDO Agriculture and DO Agriculture, who were present on the occasion, accepted the charges levelled by the councillors.

They also agreed that the medicines and fertilizer provided to farmers were expensive and the filed assistants and field workers did not perform their duties dedicatedly. They sought help from the elected representatives in this regard.

Nisar Khan asked the agriculture officers to improve their efficiency and remove the grievances of the farmers.
