KARACHI, Dec 1: The provincial ombudsman, Justice (retd) Haziqul Khairi, in exercise of his suo motu power, has asked the Saddar Town Nazim to show cause as to how he has allowed setting up of a bachat bazaar in Jehangir Park.

After press report, the ombudsman along with his team had inspected the Jehangir Park on Nov 29 and found a bachat bazaar functioning on a large portion of the park. As many as 300 stalls were stated to have been set up there, each paying Rs400 as rent per day.

The setting up of the bachat bazaar has harmed the beauty of the park and damaged the plants, grass and trees, besides causing inconvenience to the public. It was reported that Rs700,000 were spent last year on the beautification of the park.

The ombudsman directed the Saddar Town Nazim to appear before him on Dec 5, with a notice to City Nazim to appear before him either personally or through other official.

A copy of the notice would also be affixed at the park.— APP
