KARACHI, March 15: A court refused on Saturday to delay the trial of a man suspected of shooting dead two guards outside the US consulate here last month, and ordered the police to submit the charges, a state attorney said.
The police had requested the delay to allow for further arrests for the Feb 28 killings for which Zulfiqar Ali is in jail.
“The judge refused a police request for further remand so that other accused in the case could be arrested,” a public prosecutor told reporters after Ali made a brief appearance before Judge Shabbir Ahmed of an anti- terrorism court.
Instead, the judge ordered that the police submit their charges against Ali to the court on March 22, the attorney said.
Ali was produced in the court under tight security with his face completely covered.
Seven policemen were also injured in the incident that saw the attacker, already armed with a pistol, grab a submachine gun from one police guard and then spray the others with bullets. — AFP
