HYDERABAD, March 15: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal harbours no grudge against the United States or India but it is opposed to their aggressive designs against the Muslims, MNA Qazi Hussain Ahmed said on Saturday.

He was speaking on the occasion of the concluding session of the three-day training course of the Jamaat workers at the Mansoora Goth in Hala, about 50 kilometres away from here.

Qazi Hussain Ahmed, while making it clear that the MMA was not against the US or India, said that it was opposed to the aggressive designs of Bush and Vajpayee administrations.

Citing reasons for the opposition, he said that the entire Muslim world was threatened by the imperialist American administration, which, according to him, was trying to take over the resources of the Muslim countries.

He said it was with this singular purpose that America had invaded Afghanistan with the assistance of Pakistani rulers.

Blaming Gen Pervez Musharraf of acting hastily and accepting the demands made by the US administration against the advice of the saner elements, Mr Ahmed said that the US was taking advantage of his (Gen Musharraf’s) awe.

America, he said, was again employing similar tactics vis-a- vis Iraq to obtain Pakistan’s vote in favour of its resolution against Iraq in the UN Security Council.

He said that while the Pakistani government wavered with indecision, but the entire nation had given its verdict in favour of Iraq.

American intellectuals, he said, blamed Saudi Arabia for the Sept 11 incident as in their view most of the alleged perpetrators of the suicide attacks belonged to that country.

Predicting that Iran would become the next American target, he said that the US would also not spare Pakistan’s nuclear programme.

Mr Ahmed said that Pakistan, instead of supporting the US, should strive to bring the Muslim countries on a single platform.

Referring to the rift between America and Europe, the JI chief said that the real dispute was over the spoils of war and the distribution of wealth of the Muslim countries.

Pakistan, he said, could become powerful with the supremacy of its Constitution and acknowledgement of the Parliament.

Terming the Legal Framework Order extra-constitutional law, he said that under the LFO, the rights, including provincial autonomy, the powers of local councils and police, were vested in a single person.

Reiterating the MMA’s conditional acceptance of Gen Pervez Musharraf as the constitutional president, he said that he should shed his uniform, adding that it seemed that the general did not feel comfortable in Sherwani.

Gen Musharraf, he said, had no powers to become president under what he described as a fraud referendum.

Referring to the problems confronting Sindh, Mr Ahmed said that the lands of Sindh belonged to its Haris and farmers, adding that it was tyrannical to allot the province’s lands to people, who were sitting hundreds of miles away.

Stressing on the need for building water reservoirs, he said that small dams should be built in every province to overcome the acute shortage of water besides making use of them for storing large amounts of water in times of floods.

Dismissing the idea of building Kalabagh dam, he said that instead of such mega projects attention should be paid towards ensuring judicious distribution of water.

Mr Ahmed advised the Jamaat workers to boycott American products.
