LAHORE, March 13: Punjab IGP Syed Masood Shah has taken serious notice of a news item published about Shahid Chandia’s death in an encounter with Makhdoomkot police in Muzaffargarh.

The IGP has directed the provincial investigation branch to send a special team to the district to probe the matter.

Additional IGP (investigation) Shaukat Javed has constituted an inquiry team headed by SSP Dr Arif Mushtaq. The committee will immediately initiate inquiry, and submit its report within 10 days to the IGP.

In response to another news about the death of a murder suspect from alleged police torture in Gujrat, the IGP has directed the committee to investigate. He said appropriate action would be taken in the light of the team’s findings.—APP
