GUJRANWALA, March 13: The health department foiled an attempt to grab its land worth millions of rupees by demolishing a boundary wall constructed illegally around two and a half kanals.

According to information received on Thursday, some people started constructing a boundary wall around the health department’s land on the sessions court road at the behest of a private college administration.

On receiving information, Executive District Officer Dr Zafar Iqbal Niazi and other senior health officials reached there, and got the wall demolished.

The department higher-ups later informed the Punjab health director-general and DCO about the incident, and lodged a complaint with police.

SHOPS’ EVACUATION DEMAND: A judicial magistrate of the tehsil council on Thursday demanded the Nazim to get evacuated Khakwani cloth market’s shops from their owners, who had been doing business by paying nominal rent to the council.

Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Zaman Khan sent a memorandum to Tehsil Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad, requesting him to get the shops evacuated.

The council claimed that the apex court had announced the verdict in their favour, but the shopkeepers had refused to vacate the shops.

KILLED: A coachman was clubbed to death by his colleague over a minor issue, here on Thursday.

Reports said Javed Ahmad was picking passengers in front of Sheranwala Bagh when accused Muhammad Amjad quarrelled with him over a petty dispute and clubbed him.

Ahmad was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where he died.

CRITICIZED: PPP (Patriots) MNA Chaudhry Imranullah flayed on Thursday opposition’s intolerance about the Legal Framework Order.

He said the opposition members should say good bye to parliament, if they are not willing to do without controversy.
