GUJRAT, March 11: A murder suspect died in the DHQ Hospital on Tuesday, having allegedly been subjected to severe torture by Jalalpur Jattan Sadar police.

It is learnt that Jalalpur Jattan Sadar police registered a case against brothers Liaquat and Ashiq for killing Malik Murtaza in Nanowal on January 12 last.

Their brother Sharafat alleged that the police had arrested Liaquat about a month ago but did not register his arrest. He was subjected to severe torture by the police, he added.

When his condition deteriorated on Tuesday, the police asked the family to take him to the hospital where he died some hours after arrival. He lodged a written complaint in this regard with the district police officer and demanded the higher authorities to take stern action against the police officials responsible for Liaquat’s death. When contacted, the Moharrar of police station denied the charges of torturing.

SHOT DEAD: A man allegedly shot dead his sister over her loose morals in Jamu Bhola, Kunjah, on Monday night. Shujaat shot and killed Shagufta on the spot and fled from the scene.

Kunjah police sent the body to mortuary and registered a case against Shujaat on the complaint of his father Ghulam Muhammad.

Trader KILLED A trader was shot dead by three dacoits in Hailan, Mandi Bahauddin, some 55km from here, on Monday night.

Two men entered the shop of Malik Anwar and demanded cigarettes. In the meantime, one of them whipped out his pistol and demanded money from Anwar. On resistance, the bandits opened fire on Anwar, killing him instantly.

In another incident, three bandits injured a couple on resistance in Qudratabad.

Three armed men forced their entry into the house of Shafiq and held up the inmates at gunpoint.

They shot at and injured Shafiq and his wife when they put up resistance.
