PESHAWAR, March 11: An alleged hardened criminal was killed during a police encounter and one of his accomplice was arrested and another escaped from Mashai area of Daudzai in the city’s outskirt on Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (investigation) Dr Kamal Sadiq disclosed this at a news conference here.

Dr Kamal said that the police in a raid killed Farhad alias Farhady, son of Said Rasool, at Mashai area of Daudzai. One of his accomplice Amir Nawaz, son of Sher Afzal, was arrested, and another named Iqbal, escaped.

He said that Farhad was wanted in five cases of murder, attempted murder and carjacking. The police recovered two Kalakovs rifles, two hand-grenades, three magazines and 30 rounds.

SECURITY: The SSP (investigation) Dr Kamal Sadiq said that 99 platoon of police force would be deployed on Youm-i-Ashur to cope with any emergence.

He said that during Muharram 72 platoons are on duty in district Peshawar, and on Youm-i-Ashur 20 extra platoons would be deployed.

Two commander posts at Kohati Gate and Hashtnagri were also established, where officials of other department were on duty along with the police force, he maintained.

Dr Kamal appealed to the people to remove tinted glasses from their vehicles or else they would be forcibly removed.

The SSP also announced a ban on pillion-ridding and said that the movement of Afghan refugees would also be restricted during the Ashur day.

He said that all hotels, inns and motels have been told to keep record of guests and inform the police of any suspicious characters.

KILLED: An Afghan refugee, travelling in a bus, was killed by another passenger on Khyber Road near Shami Chowk on Tuesday.

The driver of the bus No Peshawar-K 8074, Jalil Shah, a resident of Landi Kotal, told the East Cantt police station that one of the passengers pulled out a pistol and killed another passenger and escaped after forcing the bus to stop. The deceased was identified as Gul Rehman.
