HYDERABAD, March 11: The government will review the Police Order 2002 in view of the public complaints regarding the operation and investigation wings of the police.

This was stated by the Provincial Police Officer, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah while speaking at a press conference at the Shahbaz Hall here on Tuesday.

He said that the investigation and operation wings had been given under the control of DPOs in one district each of Sukkur and Hyderabad region on an experimental basis.

Mr Shah said that the experiment would be continued for two months to see the difference, adding that if the experiment proved to be successful, the same system would be recommended in every district.

He further said that in both of these districts, the DPO (investigation) would work under the DPO (operation).

Defending the separation of the investigation and operation wings, he said that people would definitely benefit.

Recruitment and promotions, he said, were being made in accordance with the new rules of the Police Order 2002.

Dismissing news reports regarding the police not getting adequate budget for its fuel needs, he said that over Rs50 million had been earmarked in this regard, adding that it was utilised for clearing dues.

Hyderabad region, he said, alone had been provided with 70 new vehicles, adding that for the first time that a psychiatrist was helping the police evaluate the new recruits.

Appreciating the close coordination between rangers and police in Sindh, the PPO defended their stay in Sindh, saying that rangers have never posed a problem for the police.

He said that 31 Pakistanis, belonging to five terrorist gangs and believed to be involved in various bomb blast cases, had been arrested from Karachi.
