KARACHI, March 11: Speakers at a function on Monday called for giving due rights to women as enshrined in the religion and guaranteed by the constitution.

They were speaking at the inauguration of an exhibition of paintings by artist Shehla Rehman, organized in connection with the International Women’s Day.

The speakers said the artist through her paintings had tried to create an awareness about the excesses being committed and injustices being done to women in the country, in particular, and around the world, in general.

They said earlier the artist had painted violence against women and war against terrorism and the Swiss government had invited her to display her paintings in Switzerland.

They said the artist had exclusively worked on the subject of women’s rights, their plight and injustices done to them, and through her painting, she had vividly advocated their cause.

Shehla Rehman said on the one hand women were playing a commendable role in almost every field and were even included into space missions, and on the other hand, they were subjected to all kinds of oppressions and suppression.
