MIRPURKHAS, March 9: The Mirpurkhas district witnessed a decline in chili produce during the current year and growers also did not get desirable price for their crop.
A survey of the Kunri red chili market revealed that due to the water shortage, growers cultivated chili on less area in Pithoro, Umerkot, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Digri, Naokot, Jhuddo, Samaro, Kunri and Mirpurkhas talukas.
Many chili traders have purchased and stored stocks in the hope of rise in the price.
Office-bearers of the Chili Market Association told this correspondent that the government policy had caused losses to them.
They complained the government did not allow them to export chili as result of which the price remained low despite less production.
WOMEN’S DAY: A seminar was held at the citizen gymkhana here on Saturday to mark the International Women Day.
Speaking at the seminar, the participants deplored excesses against women and said killings on the pretext of Karo-kari were continuing.
