RI for three killers

SAHIWAL, March 8: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mian Faiz Muhammad sentenced on Saturday three youths to 25 years rigorous imprisonment each for killing an officer of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd.

Each convict will pay Rs25,000 compensation to the heirs of Kashif. According to the prosecution, Khawar Chohan, Shahid Gujjar and Sohail had on Jan 22, 2001, shot dead SNGPL officer Kashif in Farid Town of Sahiwal.

The accused who were students of two Lahore colleges had enmity with the SNGPL officer.

Farid Town police had arrested the killers from Lahore.

BOOKED: The Sahiwal Anti-Corruption Establishment registered on Saturday cases against a stenographer of the Bahauddin Zikariya University, two officers of the forest department and a secretary of a union council.

Stenographer Saeed Akhtar Gujjar had received Rs12,000 from Umar Afzal and promised to help him in BA examination.

Muhammad Anwar and Anwar Ali of the forest department collected Rs9,450 from contractor Ghulam Haidar Bhatti but deposited Rs4,450 in the bank.

Secretary Riaz Ahmad embezzled Rs79,000 funds of union council No 62/121.
