GUJRANWALA, March 8: People’s Colony police claimed to have found the clue to the killing of a banker, and arrested his wife and her lover, here on Saturday.

Reports said Maqsood Ahmad’s wife allegedly developed illicit relations with a cable operator, Ghafan Raza, when he came to her house to set channels a few months ago.

Realizing that his wife had developed relations with the cable operator, Maqsood prepared divorce documents. However, the couple’s relatives mediated and resolved the dispute.

A couple of days later, the woman served her husband with intoxicated tea and called her lover, who shot him dead.

The police claimed that both the accused had confessed their crime during interrogation. A case has been registered and investigation is under way.

GANG BUSTED: The district police claimed on Saturday to have arrested a dozen members of robbers’ gang, which was on the rampage in various parts of the Punjab.

District Police Officer Saud Aziz told newsmen that the gang, also having female members, had rented two houses near Eminabad. The male members of the gang used to roam in the locality in guise of security guards.

On receiving information about their activities, raiding teams of Eminabad and Wahando police stations surrounded the locality. Subsequently, the robbers and the police exchanged fire and the latter overpowered the former after a short chase.

The DPO added that the police had retrieved a huge quantity of arms, six motorcycles, mobile phone sets, electronics and jewellery.

TRANSFERRED: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 judge, Muhammad Husain Maiken, has been transferred and posted district and sessions judge in Hafizabad.

He left the charge as anti-terrorism court judge on Saturday.
