LAHORE, March 8: Water and Sanitation Agency of the Lahore Development Authority will upgrade the Babu Sabu and Main Outfall pumping stations at a cost of Rs25 million before the monsoon.

Wasa Managing Director Inam Qadir said this while briefing the city district government officials on the plan for improvement of sewage and storm water disposal in the provincial metropolis, at a meeting on Saturday. District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood chaired the meeting.

Wasa MD said two additional pumps of 25-cusec each were being installed at the Babu Sabu pumping station for increasing its storm water disposal capacity to one million cusecs. He added that two 25-cusec pumps were installed at the pumping station last year.

He said Rs10 million was being spent on the replacement of three 15-cusec pumps installed at the Main Outfall pumping station in 1940. The pumps were not functioning.

He also said Wasa had started desilting of 3,000 kilometre sewerage lines and 180-kilometre drains to ensure efficient drainage of storm water during the monsoon.

The agency had also completed planning for construction of a storm water drain from Saggian Bridge to Babu Sabu and sullage water drains for disposal of southern Lahore areas’ sewage being discharged into the canal at present.
