LAHORE, March 6: PPP-Parliamentarians chief Makhdoom Amin Faheem has demanded nominating opposition leader in the National Assembly according to parliamentary traditions.

Talking to reporters after attending Qul of Senator Raza Rabbani’s brother-in-law here on Thursday, he laid his party’s claim to the office of the opposition leader, saying the second largest parliamentary party had the right to name the opposition leader.

He said while counting members of a party in the house, it should be seen that how many of them had got elected on the party’s ticket and not that how many of them had changed their loyalties.

He said the constitution was the prime issue at the moment. The PPP was not ready to accept the LFO as it is for it lacked any constitutional authority until parliament adopted it.

He told a questioner that a committee, comprising parliamentary leaders of all parties, had been formed on the LFO issue to adopt a joint stance on it.

He denied that the government had approached him on the subject.
