HYDERABAD, March 6: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has expressed the fear that development work in the district will come to a standstill if the Sindh government did not provide the allocated fund of Rs500 million to the district government.

He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on “Problems of Hyderabad and the Importance of Establishing a Civil Society”, held here on Wednesday.

About the HDA and Wasa, Mr Rafiquzzaman said theses organizations had become redundant but had not been wind up as the employees would be rendered jobless. He said he was under immense pressure to terminate HDA and Wasa employees.

He said he would order investigation into the fake allotment of plots in Sehrish Nagar, Qasimabad.

He opposed the imposition of new taxes by the district council and said if he was pressurized on this issue, he would tender his resignation.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Zahid Bhurgari said a relief package should be announced for Hyderabad to solve its problems.

He said the fund announced by the government for MNAs and MPAs for carrying out development works in their respective areas had not been released.

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s MPA Abdur Rehman Rajput said the drainage system of Hyderabad had collapsed and stressed the need for its early rehabilitation.

The seminar, organized by the Society for Health and Education Development, adopted several resolutions, calling for immediate disposal of dirty water and rehabilitation of the sewerage system.
