Inquiry into land scandal begins

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 2: On the directives of secretary, Sindh Board of Revenue, inquiry has been initiated in the alleged embezzlement in disposal of prime land and properties of evacuee property trust in district Mirpurkhas, it was learnt here on Tuesday.

Sources said government properties and agricultural lands worth millions of rupees situated at Mirpurkhas, Jhuddo, Naokot, Samaro, Mithi, Chhachhro, Kot Ghulam Mohammad had been illegally allotted to undeserving persons after allegedly taking huge bribe from them by some district officials of evacuee property trust.

Former Mirpurkhas deputy commissioner Ahmed Bux Narejo had ordered Anti-Corruption Establishment, Mirpurkhas, to conduct inquiry into this matter.

An official of the Sindh Board of Revenue Piyar Ali Khwaja reached here on Tuesday to conduct the inquiry.

He took over the relevant records of evacuee properties and recorded the statements of concerned officials of the trust as well as some of the complainants.

TRANSFER: Friends of Cardiology, Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital, has demanded of the higher authorities to cancel the transfer orders of Dr Novel from cardiac ward of the hospital to Umerkot.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the NGO said Dr Novel was committed and hard working to such an extent that he had been providing treatment to about 100 patients in the ward in evening.

WOMAN KILLED: A married woman was axed to death by her husband at village Haji Suleman Junejo of taluka Umerkot.

Deedar alias Waheed allegedly axed his wife Noori, aged 25 years, to death and fled.

Murder case has been registered with Umerkot police against him.

Besides, three accused Hoti Bheel, Lachhman Bheel and Manjoon Bheel barged into the house of Mohammad Hussain Nohri in village Siddiq Nohri of taluka Pithoro on Monday night and took away gold and silver ornaments worth thousands of rupees with clothes.

Case has been lodge with Shadi Palli police against them.

ELECTIONS: Annual elections of Mirpurkhas Chamber of Commerce and Industry were held here on Monday in which following office bearers were elected unopposed for the year 2001-2002.

President Abdul Khaliq Khan, senior vice-president Ashiq Hussain Siddique, vice-president Abdul Majeed Shaikh, and Azam Khan, Nazar Hussain, Rizwan Ahmed, Abdul Bari, Munawar Khan Kaimkhani, Umerdin Qureshi and Syed Jamal Shah as members of the executive committee.
