District council demands funds

SHIKARPUR, Nov 29: A meeting of the district council, Shikarpur, was held at the district council hall on Thursday to look into the problems being faced by the people.

Zafar Ali Shaikh, Naib Nazim District, presided over the meeting which was attended by 33 members.

The problems including the shortage of medicines in hospitals, furniture in schools and hospitals, non-availability of oxygen cylinders at the Garhi Yasin Hospital, additional rooms for schools, upgrading of the Khanpur high school to higher secondary school, and drainage were highlighted by the members.

The meeting through resolutions demanded the government to pay attention towards the negligence in duties by the employees of agricultural and educational institutions, shortage of insecticides and other agricultural chemicals, provision of special funds, posting of trained Tapedars, and provision of due share of Indus water to Sindh.

Aqeel Abbas Soomro presented a proposal to disallow the members to reply on behalf of any of the departmental heads during the sessions, while Zulfiqar Ali Kamario supported his proposal.

STRIKE: Government employees from grade 1 to 16 of education, health and other departments observed pen-down strike and boycotted their duties in Shikarpur District on Thursday on the call of the Sindh Employees Alliance to protest against the non-acceptance of the charter of demands.
