50 sensitive Zuljinah routes

Published March 5, 2003

LAHORE, March 4: Over 200 venues of Majalis-i-Aza and 50 routes of Zuljinah processions in the city have been declared sensitive.

The city district government will establish a control room at the district Nazim’s office for monitoring the law and order situation, and its peace committees comprising public representatives and government officials will visit all sensitive spots for ensuring peace during Muharram.

Permission for the use of amplifiers for the Majalis-i-Aza is being given at the police station level, and everyone involved in spreading sectarianism is being kept under close watch. Peace committees are also being activated at town, union council and police station level.

The district Nazim will personally inspect the routes of the central Zuljinnah procession from the Walled City to Karbala Gamay Shah on Thursday to ensure that all arrangements for law and order have been completed.

Speaking on the occasion, the Nazim urged the people to foil all nefarious designs of the miscreants by maintaining sectarian harmony during Muharram. He said the efforts being made by the CDG for maintaining sectarian peace would fail if the people did not cooperate with it.
