MIRPURKHAS, March 4: A group of members of the Mirpurkhas District Council boycotted the council’s session on Monday to protest against poor sanitary conditions in different towns of the district and non-availability of ambulance, medicines and doctors at the Umerkot Taluka Hospital.

Speaking at the session, Yawar Ali, Malik Liaquat Ali and others said insanitary conditions had spread diseases in the district.

They criticized the DCO for not attending the meeting.

Lal Malhi deplored the non-availability of doctors at the Umerkot Taluka Hospital when the victims of a recent accident were brought there.

The meeting decided to move the Sindh chief secretary to hold an inquiry into the matter.

Khuda Bukhsh Jarwar deplored that despite declaring six talukas of the district calamity-hit areas, revenue, Ushr and Abiyana were being recovered from growers of these talukas.

ARRESTED: The Umerkot police on Monday arrested bus driver Darshan Lal who escaped after an accident in which six persons were killed and four injured.

JSQM: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Basheer Qureshi has congratulated the Sindh MPAs for unanimously adopting a resolution against the Thal canal project. Talking to journalists here on Monday, he urged the Sindh government to get the resolution implemented.
