SUKKUR March 4: A Jirga held in Kandhkot on Monday imposed Rs250,000 fine on a police constable, Pir Bukhsh Sanjrani, for killing a villager, Nihal Lashari.
The Jirga was presided over by Sher Mohammad Bijarani and attended by the senior police officials and elite of the Lashari tribe.
It was also decided in the Jirga that a relative of the deceased would be recruited in the police force.
Six days back, the police staff of the Masjid check-post, Kandhkot, opened fire on some Lashari tribesmen on way to their village, suspecting them to be outlaws.
Nihal was killed in the firing and other villagers saved their lives by jumping into a nearby canal.
Following the incident, the Lashari tribesmen blocked the Indus Highway to protest against the murder and later cleared the highway on an assurance of the district police officer and Nazim, Jacobabad, that action would be taken against the policemen involved in the murder.
KILLED: A man was killed and three other people were injured when dacoits opened fire in their house in the Mirpur Buriro village, Jacobabad district, on Tuesday morning.
The dacoits barged into the house of a man, Qamaruddin Buriro. The inmates of the house offered resistance. The dacoits opened fire as a result of which, Qamaruddin, was killed on the spot and three others — Shahal Khan, Jam and Ghulam Sarwar — were injured.
The villagers were able to overpower one of the dacoits, Karim Bukhsh, and handed him over to the police. However, he managed to flee from police custody.
On hearing about his escape, the villagers cordoned off the police station and raised slogans against the police officials.
Later, the DPO, Jacobabad, suspended two police officials — Head Constable Mir Khan Gujarani and Constable Durani Khan Gujarani — and sent them behind bars on the charge of crass negligence of duty.
KIDNAPPED: A five-year-old boy, Mohammed Ovais Khilji, was kidnapped by three men, who were astride a motorcycle, from the Qasai Mohalla, Kandhkot, on Tuesday.
HOSTAGE RETURNS: A man, Barkat Golo, who was kidnapped a month back from the Tangwani village, Jacobabad district, returned home on Tuesday.
Family sources said influential Sardars from Balochistan played a key role in his release.
However, the police claimed that he was released due to police pressure. They further claimed that no ransom money had been paid for his release.
DACOITS: Armed dacoits barged into the house of a doctor, Nasir Qureshi, and stole cash and jewellry worth Rs500,000 in Takkar Mohalla, Sukkur, on Tuesday.
