KARACHI: Polio cases

Published March 5, 2003

KARACHI, March 4: Despite a large number of polio crash programmes, Pakistan still remains the third country with highest prevalence rate of polio cases, and Sindh tops the four provinces.

In Sindh, polio cases have increased instead of registering a decline, as according to figures released by the Deputy Director, National Institute of Child Health, Karachi, Dr S.M. Afaq, 28 cases of the disease were registered in the province during the year 2001. The number rose to 41 in 2002.—PPI
