COLOMBO, March 4: The fragile ceasefire in Sri Lanka faces a number of threats owing to the attitude of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elaam (LTTE), who are bent upon violating its true spirit.

In this regard, incidents of violence have nearly led to breakdown of ceasefire in which the LTTE has threatened the government of dire consequences if it failed to release its six men. The LTTE men were arrested by the Navy for their suspicious movement in the Northeast seas.

Meanwhile S. Anandasangari, the leader of the TULF, the oldest Tamil political party in the country told Parliament on Tuesday that he was not afraid of the LTTE.

The TULF leader had left the country a fortnight ago amidst strong speculation that he was fleeing the wrath of the LTTE after the Tigers’ hierarchy called for his resignation as party president.
