ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali assured the National Assembly on Wednesday that 67 persons who were re-employed against civil posts after retirement during the military government would be relieved gradually on case-to-case basis.
The prime minister said that being in charge of the establishment division he considered this as his responsibility to answer the question. The supplementary question was raised by PPP’s Syed Naveed Qamar during the question hour session of the lower house.
Mr Jamali said his cabinet had decided in principle that those who were re-employed on contract basis after retirement against civil posts from Oct 12, 1999, and were not needed now would be relieved gradually on case-to-case basis. “I assure you that no favouritism or discrimination would be meted out to them during the course of implementing the cabinet decision,” he observed.
A list of 67 persons who were re-employed in grades 11 to 22 in different organizations were also produced before the house. Out of the list of 67 employees, 23 persons were re-employed in grade 22, seven in grade 21 and 14 in grade 20.
Replying to a different supplementary questions, the prime minister said the personnel of the armed forces were also citizens of this country and it was government’s responsibility to provide employment to every citizen and safeguard the rights of the downtrodden.
Meanwhile, the minister of state for establishment division, Mr Raza Hiraj, also informed the house that the government was formulating a policy to strictly adhere to merit in future appointments and to ensure that no deviation be made from this policy.
Deputy speaker Sardar Yaqoob, meanwhile, deferred a question piloted again by Naveed Qamar to be placed during the next session concerning the induction of armed force personnel in civil services on permanent or ad hoc basis.
The member who seemed not to be satisfied with the answer had asked to provide the list of all the appointments made, including in the NRB and NAB, saying inadequate reply was an insult to the house.
At this, the prime minister personally asked the member to move his question again so that a detailed reply could be given according to his satisfaction.
