LAHORE, Feb 25: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced on Tuesday that the government would procure all the wheat to be offered by the farmers this season under the supervision of provincial ministers and advisers.
Presiding over a meeting, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to make foolproof arrangements for wheat’s procurement at support price.
The CM was informed that the province had gunny bags for procuring 2.5 million tonnes of wheat. He asked the relevant officials to obtain more bags for another 2 million tonnes of wheat.
He said the demand of Pakistani wheat in the international market had increased during the past few weeks, and the government was ready to take advantage of the favourable conditions.
Mr Elahi directed the provincial administration to invite representatives of farmers, wheat traders, exporters and financial institutions to a seminar in Lahore during the next few weeks to make a long-term policy for the maximum wheat export.
