HYDERABAD, Nov 28: The teachers on the call of the Sindh Employees Alliance boycotted classes and all the educational institutions in Hyderabad and the interior of Sindh remained closed on Wednesday in protest against the manhandling of teachers in Hyderabad and Sukkur who were protesting against the test and non-acceptance of their demands.

Protest meetings were also held in different colleges and various resolutions were adopted which included the withdrawal of orders about the privatization of educational institutions, restoration of moveover, selection grade and advance increments in the new pay-scales, awarding punishment to those officials who had subjected the teachers to violence in Sukkur and Hyderabad and the removal of the EDO (Education), Sukkur, forthwith.

The meetings further demanded that the 25 per cent employees quota reserved for teachers’ children since 1985 should be restored, a certain employment quota for the children of ministerial staff and lower staff should be fixed, advance increments for B.Ed and M.Ed teachers should be sanctioned and the female teachers of Hyderabad should be exempted from appearing before the Sindh Public Service Commission for interviews.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Sindh Employees Alliance, Tariq Qureshi, announced that the boycott of classes by the teachers would continue on Thursday.

The chairman, Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, provincial president, PPP-SB, Maula Bux Mashori and the president, Sindh Hari Committee, Azhar Jatoi have condemned the police excesses against the teachers in Sukkur and Hyderabad the other day.

PRICES FIXED: The district coordination officer, Hyderabad, M. Tariq Ayub, who is controller of prices of essential commodities, fixed the prices of meat and other essential commodities for Hyderabad District.

Besides, the prices of fruit and vegetables will be fixed on a daily basis and such lists will be released daily.

He has notified that under the decision of the Sindh Government to provide relied to the people during the month of Ramazan, the price of wheat has been reduced by Rs1 per kg and ex-mill rate per kg of wheat flour has been fixed at Rs8.50 while the retail price of flour has been fixed at Rs9.00 per kg.

These rates were finalized in a meeting of the District Price Control Committee held on Wednesday.
