Anti-US demo

Published February 24, 2003

LAHORE, Feb 23: Six non-government organizations and a political party staged a joint demonstration at Faisal Chowk on Sunday to condemn the US war mongering against Iraq.

Men, women and children belonging to seven organizations stood along the road for more than half an hour carrying banners and placards.

Speaking on the occasion, Youth Talent Council chairman and others said the US had no moral justification to attack Iraq. They said it was strange that a country like the US with huge stockpiles of destructive weapons was out to attack a small country like Iraq on the pretext of disarming it.

They said the US had committed atrocities against the people of Afghanistan and thrust its own government on the country under the garb of war against terrorism. It was now trying to take over the oil resources of Iraq despite demonstrations against it in over 600 countries of the world.

The demonstration had to be discontinued after about 40 minutes when the police asked the participants to leave the place.
