LAHORE, Feb 23: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said that the members of the Punjab Assembly would be consulted while formulating law and order policies, development projects and economic rehabilitation programmes.
He was talking to a delegation of MPAs at the Chief Minister’s House on Sunday.
The chief minister said that the administrative machinery would be made responsive to the people’s needs. It was obligatory on government officers to serve the masses with dedication and devotion.
Fundamental changes were being effected in education, irrigation, agriculture systems and other areas of national development.
To strengthen the democratic dispensation, values of understanding, conciliation and peace were being promoted in the politics.
The chief minister urged the MPAs to develop a liaison with public and inform them about various initiatives and measures being taken by the government.
He said that capable and honest individuals would be highly appreciated in various sectors of national life.
He said that hardworking and efficient teachers could play an important role in nation-building. The government made education cost-free up to the secondary level for promoting education and controlling drop-out ratio among children.
He said that the teachers giving better results would be given lucrative incentives and other privilege. He said that all-out efforts were being made to promote education and achieve 100 per cent literacy rate in the Punjab.
Punjab ministers Basharat Raja, Arhsad Khan Lodhi, Ajmal Cheema and Mian Imran Masood also attended the meeting.
