40,000 saplings to be planted

GILGIT, Feb 23: The Northern Areas forest department has said that it would plant at least 40,000 saplings in all five districts in the plantation season that will commence in the first week of March.

The department also said that the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) and the army would provide fruit trees free of cost under their social forestry programme.

It added that local farmers had also showed their willingness to provide ornamental trees to encourage the campaign.
