ASI sent to jail for torturing accused

GUJRANWALA, Feb 22: A civil judge of Wazirabad got registered on Saturday a case against an ASI for torturing an alleged addict and humiliating his mother and other relatives.

Muhammad Asif was arrested by ASI Sardar Iqbal of City Wazirabad police, implicated him in a drug addiction case and tortured him.

The ASI manhandled and humiliated Asif’s mother, sister, sister-in-law and brother Khalid after entering their house when they moved a court against the illegal arrest and torture.

The ASI produced Asif before Wazirabad Civil Judge Sohail Ahmad for seeking his physical remand. Asif informed the judge that the ASI implicated him in a case at the behest of his rivals and tortured him in the police station.

The judge denied to grant remand of Asif and instead sent the ASI to jail after getting registered an FIR against him.

WASTE COLLECTION: The Kamoki Tehsil Council has awarded garbage and solid waste collection contract to a Lahore company.

The council handed over on Saturday its tractor-trollies and sanitary workers to the contractor for lifting waste from streets and roads of Kamoki.

The contract has been awarded to the company for Rs240,000 per month. The tehsil council would deduct Rs30,000 per month from the contract as the rent of its tractor-trollies and other machinery.

POWER SUPPLY: The Gepco disconnected on Saturday the electricity supply to the office of the Rangers in Sialkot for not paying outstanding dues.

The power supply was later restored when the authorities concerned assured Gepco that the Rs8.2 million dues would be cleared shortly.
