LAHORE, Feb 20: Human Rights Society of Pakistan held a demonstration outside Masjid-i-Shuhada on Thursday against the US impending attack on Iraq.

The protesters were holding banners and placards bearing inscription against the US and Britain’s aggressive policies on Iraq. Filmstar Muhammad Ali, MNAs Mehnaz Rafi and Bushra Rehman, Dr Miskeen Ali Hijazi and Col Ikramullah (retired) were among the protesters.

Speaking on the occasion, HRSP president Advocate S. M. Zafar said attack on Iraq would not be a war against terrorism but an outright attack on a sovereign state. The UN should not allow a powerful state to unilaterally declare war on a weaker nation.

He said demonstrations against the US and its allies held in 600 cities around the world showed that all peace loving nations would turn against the US if it waged a war against Iraq.

He said a war against Iraq without any evidence would be a violation of human rights. The US should continue its war against terrorism within the frame of justice and legality, he observed.

He also urged the UN to resolve the conflict between the two countries in a peaceful manner.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Punjab University students held a rally in the university to protest against the US on Thursday.
