LAHORE, Feb 19: The Punjab government on Wednesday released the stipend of the postgraduate students of Fatima Jinnah Medical College/Ganga Ram Hospital’s gynaecology department, unit II.

The stipend was issued on the intervention of Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed.

The stipend was withheld by the FJM principal executive officer following an objection raised by the finance department, which said the postgraduate trainees could not be issued the stipend, as they were without supervisor for the last three months.

Meanwhile, the health minister met a delegation of the affected trainees and assured them that their economic problems would be resolved and their stipends would not be withheld.

The minister instructed the FJMC/GRH PEO not to disturb any trainee doctor by stopping his stipend and other facilities.

He said young doctors were the backbone of health sector and played a pivotal role in the providing health care to the patients.
