KARACHI: Haqiqi offices case

Published February 20, 2003

KARACHI, Feb 19: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justices Muhammad Roshan Essani and Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, on Wednesday issued notice to deputy attorney-general, advocate-general Sindh, director general of Sindh Rangers and others on a petition filed by Sohail Anjum challenging the sealing off of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement offices by law-enforcement agencies.

His counsel, Nihal Hashmi, submitted that police and rangers had sealed off the party’s offices in Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi and Liaquatabad areas on Nov 17, 2002. He further submitted that the offices were handed over to the party’s rival, Muttahida Quami Movement, which later vacated them voluntarily, as reported in the press. But, the counsel told the court, law enforcement agencies again took them over. The counsel prayed to the court to order withdrawal of the agencies from the offices.—PPI
