VEHARI, Feb 18: About 700 teachers appointed on five-year contract have not been paid salaries for the last four months.

The education department appointed teachers on Oct 12 last. It asked them verify their documents themselves and submit them. It said their salaries would be released after they submitted their documents. But, they have not yet been paid salaries.

A delegation of the Punjab Teachers Union met the district Nazim and the DCO in January and apprised them of their problem. Both the officials promised that the salaries would be paid before Eidul Azha. But the promise has not yet been fulfilled.

PHONE PROBLEM: Over 1,000 telephones are out of order in 9-11/WB, Muslim Town, College Town, People’s Colony and Pir Murad due to rain. Rain water has inundated these localities due to which telephones went out of order.

NAZIMS SACKED: The Vehari DCO issued notification of removal of two Naib Nazims of union councils of Burewala Tehsil Council.

Union council No 76 Naib Nazim Abdul Ghafoor Saho and 82 Naib Nazim Mushtaq Warraich were sacked after their respective councils passed no-confidence motions against them. They moved the Lahore High Court, Multan bench, which granted them stay. The stay was vacated and the DCO, under Section 92(2) of Local Government Ordinance, 2002, issued the notification.
