DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 18: District Nazim Alhaj Jamal Khan Leghari strongly condemned the alleged interference of MNAs and MPAs in the affairs of the district government.
This he said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of district human resource centre under the supervision of Alasar Development Organization here on Tuesday.
He said the legislators should engage themselves in enacting laws while the development work should be the responsibility of union councils, tehsil and district councils.
The founder of the devolution plan, Gen Tanweer Naqvi (retired), had left the stage without providing it a permanent shelter, he said. Funds of district governments, he said, were being distributed among MNAs and MPAs without any justification.
Mr Leghari said the development work initiated by tehsil and district governments had affected after the emergence of elected provincial governments as MNAs and MPAs were interfering in their affairs.
The interesting situation occurred when Millat Party MPA from PP-244 Syed Aleem Shah defended the role of MNAs and MPAs in the affairs of district governments. He spoke after the speech of the District Nazim.
Mr Shah said that MNAs and MPAs were not against the devolution plan as the government had extended the date for the ban on moves of no confidence against Nazims on the demand of legislators.
He said they were not against the system but they would watch it and point out the shortcomings of the activity of district and tehsil governments.
Later, the district Nazim attended the ground-breaking ceremony project for the provision of gas to Satellite Town, Khayaban-i-Sarwar.
Sources said MPA Aleem Shah and district Nazim Jamal Leghari had to jointly inaugurate the project, but the district Nazim refused it.
It may be mentioned that the District Nazim and MPA Syed Aleem Shah belong to the Millat Party.
