ISLAMABAD, Feb 18: The district and sessions judge on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to a murder convict and fined him Rs300,000.

Khurshid Abbasi had killed Ahmad Khan on an old enmity in the jurisdiction of Secretariat police station in 2001.

The court directed the convict to pay the fine as compensation to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge, Chaudhary Asad Raza, has got recovered a babygirl through bailiff and handed her over to her mother.

Nabeela Bibi, the resident of Guhra Mast in the jurisdiction of Sihala police station, moved an application of habeas corpus against her husband in the court . She pleaded that her husband, Nazar Hussein, after beating her, expelled her from his home and snatched a four-month old babygirl, Kainat, from her.

On the orders of the court, bailiff Abdul Wahid raided the house of Nazar and recovered the baby.
