School peon found dead

RAWALPINDI, Feb 17: A private school peon suffocated to death owing to gas leakage in Lal Kurti on Monday, police said.

Amir Mehmood was found dead on Monday morning when one of the schoolteachers arrived at the school and found the door of Amir’s room locked from inside. When the staff broke open the door, Amir was found dead, while the room was filled with gas, the police said.

In another incident, an employee of Islamabad Electric Supply Company, posted at Aiwan-i-Sadar, was injured critically after being hit by a car on Jinnah Avenue. Kafaiat Ullah was on his way home when a speeding car hit his bicycle. As a result, he sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in serious condition, the police said.

APP ADDS: One man was shot and injured in the jurisdiction of Sihala Police Station on Monday.

According to police, Riaz Ahmad was on his way home on motorbike when he was signalled to stop by two armed persons near Pak Chowk. He tried to flee, but the gunmen shot him in his back. The passers-by took him to Poly Clinic where his condition was stated to be serious. The attackers escaped from the scene.

The police said they had some evidences, indicating that the victim might have been shot by his rivals. However, further investigations are in process.

In another incident, Mohammad Sajad was arrested by Bhara Kahu police for possessing 115 grams charas.

The police have registered different cases against the accused under the relevant section and launched further investigation.
